Guard Gate

Castelo Mendo

Castelo Mendo

The Guard Gate faces west, flanked only by a turret. The ogival arch, the barrel vault, the numerous initials on the stonework, as well as the fittings for the hinges, have all been preserved. It is one of the access gates in the wall built during the reign of King Dinis, probably in the late 13th century.
