Belmonte
This former 16th century Franciscan convent is now Pousada Convento de Belmonte. It is an example of Manueline and renaissance religious architecture. It has a single-nave church where excavations found an area of 16th century burials. It has a number of rooms, such as the kitchen, which boasts a granite oven, a chapterhouse, refectory and cloister among others. The 1996 excavations discovered many pieces, mostly consisting of ceramics and crockery. They also found signs of an old chapel that pre-existed the convent.
