Designed by architect Gonçalo Byrne and inaugurated in 2003, this remarkable installation makes it possible to hold a wide diversity of economic, cultural and sports activities. Major events are held inside or on the large grounds that extend to the d’El Rei Gates, promoting regional products (Feira do Fumeiro and Feira da Castanha), as well as the famous Feira de São Bartolomeu, which perpetuates one of the oldest and best attended free fairs, instituted in 1273 by King D. Afonso III.
