Fountain opened the side wall of the raised ramp of the street—called a “largo” (square) here— with the same name, between the Cross of S. Salvador and the old Post Office (Largo do Cruzeiro, nº 1). Access to the points of water is through a recess in the wall with a barrel vault set on a slightly protruding socle. At the top, a semi-circular arch appears to define the mouth of the spring that fed the fountain, closed off today and from which two taps come out and drip into a basin. An old tank that caught the excess water is now placed apart, under the stairway of the yard of the Parish Church. In the absence of any apparent historical interest, we note the phenomena of the subterranean circulation of the waters, a dynamic proof of the hydraulic weathering of the rocks of the geological massif.
