The concept of work is changing and more and more people are looking for alternatives that offer a mix of work, leisure and relaxation. The Historical Villages of Portugal Network can undoubtedly position itself in this market segment. Although the project in question is not a panacea for solving all the social and economic problems of decades, it is an important step and a sign that the Network is concerting responses that need to be collectively established with different agents in order to be successful.

The competitiveness of territories is gaining relevance, with strategies to increase their attractiveness and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. Aldeias Históricas de Portugal - Associação de Desenvolvimento Turístico (AHP-ADT) has focused on innovation and sustainability through the PROVERE 2020 and 2030 Collective Efficiency Strategies. These actions aim to diversify the economy, promote the green and digital transition, combat population decline and strengthen territorial identity. In 2021, the AHP-ADT created the Network of Cowork Spaces IN Historic Villages of Portugal, in partnership with the municipalities, to boost local initiatives.

The Cowork Spaces IN Aldeias Históricas de Portugal are places based on the idea of community in a mix of work, leisure and relaxation, where, free of charge and based on a reservation request, users can develop their activity in a flexible and informal way.

It is therefore assumed that coworking spaces are anchors for generating social and economic dynamics which, in order to boost their impact, should be structured under the rationale of living labs, i.e. they should be set up as an open innovation ecosystem so that the field of experimentation associated with the vocation(s) identified in the Historical Village can be realized in the context in which it is located.

Its main objectives are:

COWORK's main objective is to support entrepreneurs, companies and self-employed professionals in the process of developing and consolidating their projects and activities, providing access to services, workspace and integrated solutions that facilitate their implementation and growth in the market.
In addition to the above, COWORK users, henceforth referred to as coworkers, also have privileged access to a number of partner entities, providing and facilitating rapid integration into the business context and the respective implementation of the project and activity.
