HOUSE OF THE JEWESS
Marialva
Marialva
The medieval characteristics of the building, coupled with the cruciform symbol engraved in the door frame, sometimes seen as a symbol of the conversion of a Jew to Christianity, contributed to the ruins of this dwelling being known as “House of the Jewess”.
Although there is documentation of Jews being in Marialva during the Middle Ages and later of converts, it is difficult to identify their residences and any workshops or shops.
