The cemetery around the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Fresta was officially instituted in 1885. It has a splendid entrance with a wrought iron gate dated 1886; the remarkable 17th-century portal from the demolished Santa Clara Convent, which has a Doric entablature, decorated with concentric circles and triglyphs with coronas, was incorporated in the mortuary chapel. In the oldest area of the cemetery, we should also note an important set of romantic tombs of a neo-classical, neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic style, built in the first decades of the 20th century.
