Stations of the Cross

Sortelha

In the 18th century, more specifically in 1742, the Stations of the Cross were built with decorative motifs in the Baroque style: a niche with a straight lintel, crowning with volutes, rosettes, triangles and a protruding lintel, very similar to a cornice. The stations consist of five stages, similar to each other, located throughout the village, always adjacent to walls: in the São Sebastião Chapel, on the wall of the Town Gate, at the castle’s entrance in Pillory Square, at the head of the Main Parish Church and another station next to the False Gate, on Rua Dá Mesquita.
