Chapel of São Brás
Castelo Novo
Castelo Novo
The chapel was built in the 13th century, but on an older foundation, which tradition says was linked to the Knights Templar and associated with a monastic complex that disappeared in the process of the extinguishing of that military order in the 14th century. Its rectangular floor plan consists of a nave, main chapel and an annex that opens into the chapel, and may be the remains of the hermitage, which later works integrated in the nave and is not centered with the main chapel. Note the baptismal basin in Manueline style.
