Manueline Charter – 1508
Charter granted by D. Manuel, in Lisbon, on 25 June 1508. The text of the charter, a manuscript in gothic characters, is formatted in one column, ruled, the folios of text being numbered on the face from II to XII (except the index and folio 1). On folio 1 the column of text is framed by a bright border with coloured floral motifs and the Portugal coat of arms flanked by two armillary spheres. The index summarises the main subjects covered in the document, highlighting the royal rights, payments of taxes and municipality revenue, with reference to the folios where those matters are dealt with.
