Castelo Rodrigo

Castelo Rodrigo

Parish records are the result of an inquiry ordered by the Marquis of Pombal in 1758. This inquiry was sent to all parishes through the Bishop of the Diocese. According to a parish document of 28 April 1758, created by José Lourenço Ferreira, Rector of Castelo Rodrigo, the village of Castelo Rodrigo is in the province of Beira, district of Pinhel, province and diocese of Lamego in the district of Cima Côa. At the time, Castelo Rodrigo had 223 people with sacraments or that is People, including those under 7 years old. The parish priest says that “it is not many people for a village and parade square”.
