In a thousand two hundred and nine, Afonso Nono de Leão assigns a settlement charter to Castelo Rodrigo; with the Treaty of Alcanizes, in two hundred and ninety-seven, D. Dinis had his castle rebuilt and the walled belt supported by semicircular turrets. D. Fernando repairs the walls after the rough battles during the reign of D. João Primeiro. In the sixteenth century, D. Manuel rebuilt the fortress.
