Monsanto

Monsanto

This point in the crags of Monsanto – a rocky landscape covered with isolated blocks caused by the weathering of the underlying granite formatio – corresponds to two pairs of large rocks that were separated from the outcropping they belonged to by a fracture and came loose and settled here, creating a stable ballance. The juxtaposition of the blocks forms an opening in the base that allows them to cross each other and form a shelter. In the support base, one can see surfaces of highly altered granite in contrast with the upper masses, causing the breakdown of the rocks by the infiltation of rainwater, a tiype of erosion known as arenization.
