Idanha-a-Velha | Percurso Azul

The route departs the Historical Village of Idanha-a-Velha to the east, heading for Alcafozes along the N332. The first few kilometres take you gently uphill with breathtaking views of the landscapes on the Spanish border and Monsanto dominating the landscape to the left. At the Alcafozes roundabout the route turns right towards Idanha-a-Nova and continues with gentle pedalling to descend into the Pônsul river valley further on. Before Senhora da Graça it turns right onto the N351 to cross the river Pônsul on a bridge with views of Idanha-a-Nova, the capital of the municipality, perched on the hill. Next is a demanding climb of around 200 m over a distance of 3 km. There are some steep gradients on this climb. After passing Idanha-a-Nova the route turns right towards Proença-a-Velha, on the M557. Around 2 km of hard cobblestones take the route through this Beira village, with a rich heritage that is well worth a visit. It continues on the road to Medelim, where it turns right and descents towards the Historical Village of Idanha-a-Velha, on the N332. After the descent there is a left turn to access the village to complete the route.
