The Roman city was accessed from the east, crossing the river by a bridge whose only remaining vestiges are the foundations which were reused to build the current bridge. The Old Bridge, of deceptive antiquity, as it is a construction dating to Filipino times (17th century) or later, is a work in granite masonry with three carvings. In Roman times, this bridge was associated with the main via (road) that connected Augusta Emerita (Mérida, Spain), capital of the Portuguese province, to Bracara Augusta (Braga).
