Anjo da Guarda Gate

Marialva

Marialva

Anjo da Guarda or São Miguel Gate in the north-east, the main entrance to the citadel, is formed by an ogival arch and barrel vault. Its jamb is sculpted with three standard measures (used since 1286, when King Dinis introduced in Marialva one of the many fairs created in his reign) and also has a niche with a guardian angel.
